The More We Travel the Gulf Coast...

the more we realize how much we really didn't know about Texas!! For example: Have ya ever really seen fog?? They say things are bigger in Texas, take thunderstorms for instance. When the weather channel says thunderstorms in Texas, they aren't kidding around!!

These are among just a couple of the things that we've learned while traveling in Texas. Nothing alarming mind you, just occasionally unpleasant, and certainly not enough to turn us back to New Mexico!!

While in South Padre we were advised that Port Aransas might make a nice stopping off point, so given that our work schedule was not pressing, we decided to spend a couple of days on another island. It was worth the time.

Port Aransas (which we had never heard of) is located just south of Corpus Christi on Mustang Island. For this stop we decided to bite the bullet and spend the $18 buck per night for electric. We figured it was time we ran the A/C a little and tried to dry out the inside of the house, you might say.

Our day trip on Wednesday February 23rd consisted of yet another ferry boat ride and a couple of those loooong Texas bridges to get to Corpus Christi the back way. Once there we spent the better part of the afternoon touring the USS Lexington which has been turned into quite an impressive museum. Its not often that civilian land lubbers are given the chance to tour a warship, let alone a very famous aircraft carrier.
